Carbon Capture is defined as: the process of trapping carbon dioxide produced by burning fossil fuels or other chemical or biological processes and storing it in such a way that it is unable to affect the atmosphere, with the aim of mitigating the effects of global warming.
Section 45Q of the Federal Tax Code states that Carbon Credits are a performance-based tax credit for carbon management projects which captured carbon oxides (carbon dioxide and its precursor, carbon monoxide) from eligible industry and power facilities, as well as directly from the atmosphere.
